Everybody is a Star
School Library Journal
Everybody Is a Star
Thirteen rock classics and two new songs are performed with a mild pop-rock interpretation aimed at children and parents. The group was founded by vocalist Sherry Goffin Kondor and her husband, Robbie. Also notable is vocalist and musician Russell Velasquez, and the Kondor's babysitter, vocalist Vicki Gross. The standout cut on the recording is a duet, performed by Sherry and her mother, Carole King, on King's classic song "You've Got a Friend." The background vocals are equally good, featuring children singing. The electronic percussion is somewhat overdone, giving the album a repetitive, disco sound. Most appealing, however, are the vocals, which will please both children and parents, as they do not patronize the audience.
